This portrait was drawn from a recognized internet photo - I have not yet been able to identify and credit the photographer. My aim is to let people see the dignity of the man through his eyes, and through him, all those marginalized in society, Every person is bestowed with human dignity- not for other purposes, but for itself, always unique. The detail in this is a reminder of that uniqueness, Human dignity is therefore an end in itself. The title invites us to stop and see this man and his dignity.

This portrait of my Grandpa as a West Point Cadet in 1956 was drawn for his 80th birthday. The hours spent drawing, and the year hanging in the US Capitol Building’s Cannon Hall Tunnel, are meant to honor him and all who are willing to lay down their life in service of others. Thank you.
